“PNU Place,” the new library app created by PNU, will be launched on May 9th due to several problems of the existing application.

The application which assigns the seats in SaeByeokBeol Library will be released soon. This was created because students expressed discomfort due to the seat privatization and so on (reported by Channel PNU on March 25th).

SaeByeokBeol Library in Pusan National University (PNU) announced that "PNU Library PNU Place (PNU Place)” will officially be out on May 9th, replacing “Clicker,” the existing seat assignment application.

"Clicker" has stopped functioning since April 25th. The seats in the library will be operated without reservation until May 8th. Students will be able to use the new application, PNU Place, from May 9th.

This change was started by the students who filed complaints about seats. That is because the students who visit the study room in the library reported the issues which they had gone through and demanded a solution through various means from Everytime, the students’ anonymous online community, to complaint calls.

Hence, the library prompted the introduction of a new application through case studies of users and other universities. Baek Seon-Woong (Administrator, Saebeokbeol Library) said, “We steadily searched cases along with the continuous demand for change and made certain the adaption of this application referring to the successful cases in a capital university.”

The most typical characteristics of “PNU Place” are users can’t be absent from their seats. In the case of Clicker, users could remain absent for a long time after registering their seats when entering the library, so students expressed complaints because the seats were not available even though the seats remained empty. However, in terms of PNU Place, users should return the seats to their available status if moving out. Additionally, this application doesn’t support the “Beacon” function, which verifies nearby students after reservation.

Through this application, the library expects to reduce the issues of the seat privatization and to resolve students’ discomfort. Baek said, “It is difficult to take seats until now, and the system was thought out as if they were leaving their seats for a moment, they would be taken by someone else. After settling down the new tendency, students will truly believe they can use seats even though they arrive anytime.”
