Non-disposed delivered food garbage was left on the bench near EIT, and a student cleaned it up.

On September 5th, a post was uploaded on Everytime, a student community of Pusan National University (PNU). There was a photo of a bench next to the Building of Economics and International Trade (EIT), filled with Chinese delivery food not cleaned up after eating. It seemed like it was eaten by about 5 or 6 people. That post received massive attention from students of PNU.

After getting massive attention, after one day, on September 6th, another post was uploaded. The post was about a PNU student who cleaned up the delivery food on the bench. The writer of the post said, “I cleaned it up just because it was such a shame.” Other presses like MBN, Maeil Shinmun, Segye Ilbo, and Chosun Ilbo wrote about “The Delivery food next to EIT building” as their news. However, it has not been confirmed whether the people who did not clean up after eating the delivery food were people related to PNU or not.

The Hyowon Herald interviewed student A, who cleaned up the bench. Student A saw the post about the EIT building bench and another about still not cleaned up at midnight. So student A took sanitary gloves and a garbage bag, decided to go and clean it. Student A said, “The next day was Monday. I thought it would feel bad if people started the week looking at the food waste because no one cleaned it up. Therefore, I decided to clean them without much thought since I live nearby.” “When I arrived there and cleaned up, it took only about 10-15 minutes. Seriously, I thought that investing this short time was a hard thing for people who left those delivery foods.” “It was 12:30 am when I cleaned them up, so while I was being restricted to get rid of the food waste, I got help from a nearby store to separate the garbage and dispose of it. Cleaning food waste from other people was strenuous, but it was not hard to do. It is hard to expect a big change with this incident. I am still angry with the people who left the food wastes. I just want people to remember this as an example of how my action can change the outcome in crowds psychology.”
